BLOND office environment data set released

Thomas Kriechbaumer & Hans-Arno Jacobsen of The Technical University of Munich (TUM) recently released BLOND - a building-level office environment dataset of typical electrical appliances. The data set contains voltage and current readings for aggregated circuits and matching fully-labeled ground truth data (individual appliance measurements). The study covers 53 appliances (16 classes) in a 3-phase power grid in Germany. The authors have released two versions of the data set:

1. BLOND-50 contains 213 days of measurements sampled at 50 kHz (aggregate) and 6.4 kHz (individual appliances).
2. BLOND-250 consists of the same setup: 50 days, 250 kHz (aggregate), 50 kHz (individual appliances).

Hive is hiring a Data Scientist in energy analytics

We're looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our team at Hive in London. Hive is best known for its Active Heating product, which lets you control your heating and hot water from your mobile, tablet or laptop. However, we also work closely with British Gas on their My Energy product, which provides customers with helpful insight into their energy consumption. We're looking for applicants with a scientific background (general machine learning knowledge), practical data analysis skills (ideally python stack), as well as experience in energy analytics (disaggregation would be a huge bonus!). NILMTK on CSR Tales

CSR Tales is blog devoted to documenting the stories behind research projects. They recently published a post written mostly by Nipun, covering the story of NILMTK - from the idea's first inception to the rapid development and release of the code and papers. Nipun, Jack and I all look back fondly on this project as some of the most open and productive scientific work we've ever done, and it makes us all really happy to see the project being used by the community. Having said that, none us have much time to keep up with the project these days, which is why we're really excited to welcome Paulo Meira (a postdoc at the University of Campinas in Brazil) to the core NILMTK team. We're keen to continue expanding the NILMTK team to allow the project to grow, so if you're interested in shaping the project's future then please get in touch :)

Small Event with focus on Energy Informatics / NILM

My name is Christoph Klemenjak and I am a PhD student working on the topic of load disaggregation and energy informatics at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria.

My supervisor Professor Wilfried Elmenreich and I would like to draw your attention to an upcoming event, the "Meetup on Current and Future Research Challenges in Energy Informatics".

The objective of this two-day event is bringing together researchers that are working on the topic of energy informatics.

Within a small group, participants are invited to present latest findings, share experiences, discuss current issues, and discover possible ways of future cooperation and collaboration.

NILM 2018 Conference Announced

Dear NILM Researchers,

The dates for the 4th International Workshop on Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) have been set. The event will take place on March 7th and 8th, 2018 in Austin, TX.
Papers for the workshop are due on December 29th, 2017, and can be submitted via the following site:

We encourage authors to submit 4-page papers using the IEEE Style,  on research that is ongoing  or contains recent results.
Note: because the workshop will only include online proceedings, submission to the workshop would not generally prevent any material from being submitted later to a journal or conference.

Dates for the 2017 EU NILM Workshop announced!

We’re pleased to announce that the fourth European Workshop on Non-intrusive Load Monitoring will be held on the 6-7th November 2017 in London, UK. The aim of the European NILM conference series is to bring together all of the European researchers that are working on the topic of energy disaggregation in both industry and academia. Call for presentations

We invite attendees to submit presentation abstracts via this Google Form by 20 September 2017. We will aim to build a balanced agenda from a combination of invited talks and submitted abstracts, while the remaining submissions will be invited to present a lightning talk and a poster. Since the workshop will not feature published proceedings, we encourage relevant submissions which have previously appeared at other venues. We also welcome submissions from companies with results or data which they are willing to share with the community.

SustainIT 2017 final call for papers

The SustainIT 2017 conference will be held December 6-7, in Funchal, Portugal, and the organisers have specifically encouraged submissions from the field of NILM. While the deadline for registering abstracts is the 7th July (!), full papers aren't required to be submitted until the 21st July.

An interesting point of this conference is that proceedings will be uploaded to IEEE Xplore and IFIP DL, but copyrights will remain with the authors. The organisers believe that keeping the copyrights with the authors is quite important, not only because of respecting the most recent EU policies on Open Access publications, but also because this allows the authors to submit extended versions of their papers to journals of their choice.
